Melbourne weddings come in every shape.

Laneway elopements in the CBD, vineyard receptions in the Yarra Valley, beach ceremonies down at Mornington, forest gatherings up in the Dandenongs. No two days look the same here, and we don't want them to.

Relaxed, honest wedding photography across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula. Documentary through the day, editorial when the light is right, and your full gallery within 3 weeks.

How we photograph a Melbourne wedding

We're not chasing trends. The photos that age best are the ones that look honest, so that's the way we work.

Show up early. Know the run sheet better than anyone. Get the family portraits done quickly so you can get back to your guests. Then step back and let the day breathe. The frames we love most are usually the ones nobody saw us take.

Our default is a mix of documentary and editorial. We shoot in natural light when we can, use off-camera flash when the venue forces our hand, and avoid trendy filters that would feel dated by your fifth anniversary.

Where we shoot in Melbourne

We cover Melbourne, the country around it and the coast. These are the places we know best.

Melbourne CBD and inner suburbs
Royal Botanic Gardens, Carlton Gardens, Royal Exhibition Building, Old Treasury Building, Hosier Lane, Albert Park, Fitzroy. The city venues that work hardest in photos are the ones with strong architecture and consistent light.
Yarra Valley
Stones of the Yarra Valley, Immerse, Yering Station, Chateau Yering, RiverStone Estate. Vineyard weddings give you a long golden hour and wide frames that look great printed large.
Mornington Peninsula
Polperro, Montalto, Lindenderry, Jackalope, Peninsula Picnic. Coastal venues are unpredictable, which is part of why they work. The light shifts every fifteen minutes.
Dandenong Ranges
Forest Edge, Poet's Lane, Tatra Receptions, SkyHigh Mount Dandenong, Avalon Castle. Misty forest, tall gums and softer mountain light. Intimate and cinematic in a different way to the vineyards.
Geelong and the Bellarine
Oakdene Vineyards, Jack Rabbit, Curlewis Estate, Terindah Estate. The quieter alternative to the Yarra Valley, with vineyards and the sea in the same frame, under an hour from the city.
Werribee and the west
Lancemore Mansion Hotel, The Park, Werribee Mansion. A quieter side of Melbourne, where formal gardens and mansion interiors give portraits real structure.
Macedon Ranges
Hanging Rock, Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm, Campaspe Run, The Briars Country House. Country venues an hour north, with open fields, old stone buildings and golden grass.
Phillip Island and Gippsland
Silverwater Resort, Churchill Island, Cape Schanck, Coal Creek. A longer drive, and venues that earn it, with cliffs, working farms and light you don't get closer to the city.

Four ways of seeing a day

Documentary Hands-off and observational. We watch the day unfold and photograph what is actually happening. This is our default through the ceremony, the reception and most of the candid coverage.

Editorial More directed: considered framing, fashion-influenced light and intentional posing for portraits. It suits venues with strong architecture and couples who want portraits that feel a little elevated.

Cinematic Richer tones and a slower pace, borrowed from the way cinema is graded. Yarra Valley vineyards and Werribee's mansions take this style well.

Hybrid What we actually do most days: documentary through the ceremony, editorial in the portrait window, cinematic where the venue calls for it. You shouldn't have to pick one and live with it all day.

Most couples arrive with a Pinterest board and a rough idea. That's enough. We talk through what you've been drawn to, look at the venue and work out what fits.

★★★★★

Jay was an absolute professional. We loved how he set out a time line of our day and made it all so easy. Also loved the contrast of the black and white to the colour pictures. The sneak peek shortly after the day was a lovely touch. Thank you Jay and Megan.

Questions couples ask

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Melbourne?
Our photography collections start at $1,190 for three hours and run to $3,990 for twelve, with every inclusion listed on the photography packages page. The biggest factors are the hours, a second photographer and whether you book videography alongside.
Do you offer photo and video together?
Yes. Photo and video collections start at $2,490, with one team covering both and a saving on booking them separately. See photo and video in Melbourne.
How far ahead should we book?
For peak season, October to April, book 9 to 12 months ahead. Saturdays at popular venues fill first. Weekday and off-peak dates can often be booked 4 to 6 months out.
Do you travel outside Melbourne?
Often. We regularly photograph in the Yarra Valley, on the Mornington Peninsula, in the Dandenong Ranges, around Geelong, in the Macedon Ranges and on Phillip Island. Travel within 50 km of the CBD is included, and anything further is itemised in your quote.
How many photos will we get?
It depends on the hours, from 200+ edited photos for three hours to 900+ for twelve. We never deliver unedited files. Every photo in your gallery has been edited.
When will we get our photos?
A sneak peek within 48 hours and your complete gallery within 3 weeks. Many studios quote six to eight weeks.
Who will photograph our wedding?
We're a small team brought together by one creative direction, and Jay guides the editing and storytelling of every wedding. In Melbourne your photographer is Jay or one of our in-house photographers, and every gallery goes through the same edit. Meet the team on the team page.
Can we add 35mm film?
Yes. With The 35mm Touch your photographer shoots real 35mm film alongside the digital coverage, from $290, or you can have the whole day on analog film. See 35mm film wedding photography.
