Kira and Nick's wedding was red and gold from the first frame to the last: bridesmaids in red, bouquets of deep red roses and trailing amaranthus, a ceremony in the warm light of Xavier College Chapel in Kew, and a black tie night at the Plaza Ballroom that felt like the premiere of a film. They married on a bright summer Saturday in January 2026, and we photographed and filmed the whole day, from the champagne by the pool to the last song.

A morning by the pool
Kira and Nick got ready at their family homes in Kew and Carlton. At Kira's, the morning started slowly: the bridesmaids in pink and white satin robes, glasses clinking by the pool, and plenty of laughter with the family before anyone thought about the time. Kira's first outfit of the day was a white backless halter dress, and she walked down the bluestone laneway outside with her friends, all in white.

Red flowers and red dresses
The colour arrived in the garden. Kira's bouquet was a cascade of red and orange roses, red anthuriums, with amaranthus trailing from it, and her three bridesmaids wore red, each in a different cut. Under the trees they raised their glasses one more time. Then Kira changed into her ceremony look: a strapless white jumpsuit with wide legs and a long train, with a veil to match.

Arriving at Xavier
At the chapel, the guests found orders of service waiting for them, each with a drawing of the two of them on the cover. The pews filled quickly. Kira arrived in a black car onto a red carpet, her veil trailing behind her and her bridesmaids in red at her side. Up on the stone terrace the wind caught the veil and lifted it high, with the city skyline far in the distance.

Down the aisle
The bridesmaids walked in first along the red carpet. Then Kira came down the aisle with two of her family beside her, past the full pews, towards Nick and the groomsmen in black tie and red rose buttonholes.

Vows in the gold light
The priest welcomed them at the altar, and the two of them sat together in the sanctuary for the readings. The afternoon sun came through the tall windows and turned the whole chapel gold. After the vows came the kiss at the altar, with the bridesmaids in red on one side and the groomsmen on the other.

Signed and married
The bridal party went up to the priest, and the register was signed at the altar table with a bridesmaid in red as a witness. There were hugs in the aisle and a lot of laughing with the groomsmen while the guests clapped. On the way out Nick punched the air, they kissed again at the back of the chapel, and their guests gathered on the terrace and the lawn outside.

A quiet hour at the hotel
Between the ceremony and the reception, Kira and Nick slipped into the hotel beside the Plaza Ballroom to rest and change. Kira and her bridesmaids sat on the bed with their bouquets in their laps, the whole bridal party squeezed onto one long banquette, and Nick put his feet up by the window. They stole a kiss in the lift, too.

Upstairs at the Regent Theatre
Then we took them up into the Regent Theatre, whose upper levels are full of carved detail, deep colour and low, warm light. Kira reclined on a tapestry sofa while Nick sat on the carpet beside her. He took a carved armchair surrounded by red roses, they kissed on the carved staircase as her veil lifted, and we finished in a candlelit corner under a glowing chandelier and down a long corridor.

Romeo, Juliet and the first dance
Downstairs the ballroom was set like a film night. Guests arrived along a red carpet and were photographed in front of a media wall, with short interviews on the way in, and many of them stopped for a photo at the tiled fountain wall in the foyer. Every table carried a framed poster of one of Kira and Nick's favourite films and musicals, with a disposable camera beside it. The night's big moment was a Romeo and Juliet reveal: Kira appeared on one of the balconies either side of the stage, now in a gold sequined jumpsuit, while Nick waited alone on the stage below. Their first dance was fully choreographed, with lifts and a dip right to the floor, and then the dance floor opened.

Speeches and cake
A close friend kept the night moving as MC, and Nick's uncle played the music. The speeches came one after another at the lectern beside the red anthuriums, starting with a guest in a red velvet dinner jacket, and the head table raised their hands behind the candles. Family hugged Kira and Nick on the dance floor, the two of them spoke together, and they cut the cake in front of the ornate iron railing.

The dance floor, to the last song
From there the night belonged to the dance floor. Kira threw the bouquet over her head, the room formed a huge circle, and she danced under pink light with her family. Late in the night there were hands in the air under the chandeliers. The last dance was the two of them alone inside a circle of their guests, and the last frames of the night are of them dancing on a balcony above the ballroom.

The film
We filmed the day as well as photographing it, and the wedding film follows it from the morning by the pool to that last dance.
