Grain, warmth and the occasional beautiful mistake that only analog film makes.

Shooting on film slows the photographer down in a good way: there are twelve frames on a roll of medium format, so nothing gets photographed by accident. The frames in the contact sheet below are lab scans from real rolls: Bianca and Aidan's, Karina and Chris's, and Kristie and Gareth's.

Real 35mm and medium format film at your wedding, developed and scanned by a lab. Add a few rolls of 35mm to your digital coverage from $290, or have the whole day shot on medium format and 35mm.

Two ways to have analog film

The 35mm Touch A few rolls of 35mm alongside your digital coverage, shot at the moments 35mm does best and developed by one of Melbourne's leading labs. The frames sit in your gallery next to your digital photographs: one roll for $290, three for $590 or six for $990.

Film photography Your whole day on analog film, with no digital at all. Medium format carries the ceremony and the portraits, where there's time to meter and compose, and 35mm carries whatever moves faster and the hours after dark. The collections below run from three hours to twelve.

What to expect

Analog film takes longer, because it goes to a lab. A film photography gallery arrives within 4 to 6 weeks, and there's no instant sneak peek. Colours are warmer and softer than digital, highlights roll off gently, and every roll is a little different from the last. Negatives are yours, free on request.

If you want a digital gallery as well, choose a digital collection with The 35mm Touch. If you want your wedding to look and feel like analog film from start to finish, choose film photography.

★★★★★

Jay was an absolute professional. We loved how he set out a time line of our day and made it all so easy. Also loved the contrast of the black and white to the colour pictures. The sneak peek shortly after the day was a lovely touch. Thank you Jay and Megan.

Questions couples ask

How does The 35mm Touch work?
Alongside your digital coverage, your photographer shoots real 35mm film at the moments that suit it. It's $290 for one roll, $590 for three and $990 for six. On longer days the smaller options drop away, so there's always enough 35mm to be a real part of the gallery.
What's the difference between The 35mm Touch and film photography?
The 35mm Touch adds a few rolls of 35mm to a digital day. Film photography is the whole day on analog film, with medium format carrying the ceremony and portraits and 35mm carrying everything that moves faster. There are no digital files in a film photography collection.
When do the film photographs arrive?
The rolls go to the lab to be developed and scanned, so a full film photography gallery arrives within 4 to 6 weeks. There's no 48-hour sneak peek, because the rolls are still at the lab. With The 35mm Touch, your digital gallery still arrives within 3 weeks.
Do we get the negatives?
Yes, free on request. Twelve-hour film photography collections return them in archival sleeves.
Why does film photography cost more?
Every frame costs something to take: the film stock itself, developing, scanning and the photographer's slower, more deliberate way of working. It's also why every frame is considered.
Do you shoot medium format as well as 35mm?
In film photography collections, yes. Medium format carries the ceremony and portraits, and 35mm carries everything that moves faster. The 35mm Touch is 35mm only.
